Yorkshire Water consortium is preferred bidder for £80m Scottish waste water project

03/08/1999

Yorkshire Water, along with the BICC Group and Earth Tech Engineering, has been selected by the North of Scotland Water Authority as the preferred bidder for an £80million PFI scheme to provide new waste water treatment plants and other facilities in Scotland.

The news was announced today (Tuesday, August 3) by the Chief Executive of Yorkshire Water plc, Dr Kevin Bond, at the company's annual general meeting in Harrogate.

The consortium, one of four which originally tendered for the contract, will finance, design, build and operate new treatment works to serve customers in Aberdeen, Stonehaven, Peterhead and Fraserburgh. Yorkshire Water will operate the new waste water treatment plants under a 30 year contract.

Dr Bond said: "We are delighted with the news and look forward to working closely with North of Scotland Water and our consortium partners with a view to finalising the deal. This is another example of our determination to win national and international business so that we can develop the group's non-regulated earnings."

The PFI scheme will be designed to meet standards required by European and Scottish waste water treatment legislation. It is expected to be in operation by the year 2001, with the exception of Stonehaven which should be on stream no later than the year 2005. Return to main menu
