MEPs visit Hull to see one of Europe’s most important water projects for new Millennium

09/03/1999

A group of Yorkshire and Humberside MEPs are due in Hull next week to see for themselves the progress on one of the UK's largest civil engineering projects since the building of the Channel Tunnel.

Their visit next Monday (15 March) will provide them with a close-up look at what also ranks as one of Europe's most important water projects for the new Millennium.

Yorkshire Water will host the special event at its Saltend site and has invited MEPs Roger Barton, David Bowe, Peter Crampton, Veronica Hardstaffe, Linda McAvan, Michael McGowan, Dr Barry Seal and Richard Corbett.

The site, on Hull Road, is the location for the new treatment plant currently being built to play a key role in the company's massive HumberCare waste water initiative.

Costing around £200 million and also including a gigantic new linking sewer currently being tunnelled underground by huge cutting machines, the overall scheme will bring tremendous environmental benefits for the whole Humber estuary. Return to main menu
